While still in high school, she realized a love for photography.
After graduation she stepped into the business of photography by working in dark rooms processing and printing photos, selling cameras, and soon decided to obtain a formal education attending Capilano College and earning a degree in Communications Media which included, audio, video and still photography.
After completing this, she came out to Nanoose Bay for a week’s holiday, fell in love with the area and made it her home. The wildlife that she saw outside her window kept her from returning to the city.
Dorothy freelanced for the local newspapers amongst other things and continued to sell her photos.
She also took some time off to start a family;but never stopped photographing.
As the children got older the time came for some upgrading as the digital process was just coming in.
In 2004, after attending and graduating from the Professional Photography course at North Island College, Dorothy opened her photographic business, Nanoose Bay Imaging.
After working under this name for a few years Dorothy decided to open a portrait studio in her home and call it her own.
